Study Day and Courses for Midwives

Study Day

Towards Natural Childbirth and Beyond

Complementing parental adaptations to the fertile cycle

with Mary McNabb -  Educational Consultant

This Study Day is the first day of the 4 day Basic Course, but can be attended as a one off  RCM accredited Day

The day is designed as a general introduction for all midwives interested in developing their practice and ideal for those midwives who are in a position to do case load practice and are able to offer continuity of care to at least one low risk woman and their partner, from early pregnancy until established lactation.

The overall aim of this day is to explore current knowledge of maternal-embryo-fetal, neonatal and paternal adaptations to the fertile cycle, developing principles of care that complement distinct adaptations that unfold during successful phases of the fertile cycle.

Midwives will understand the dynamics behind developing trusting relations with parents during pregnancy, to enable some couples to form closer relations that facilitate maternal adaptations during the third trimester leading to spontaneous labour, birth and maternal-infant attachment.

On the basis of this knowledge, some midwives attend the following 3 days to learn the LK Massage Programme to facilitate spontaneous labour and birth and minimize maternal-fetal, neonatal exposure to drugs.
Others attend this day as a stand alone Study Day.

Maintaining professional standards of safety

Since completing a Pilot RCT we have continued to develop and modify aspects of the LK Massage Programme using individual feedback and relevant research evidence to maintain effectiveness and safety of the intervention during pregnancy and labour.

All the massage techniques have been modified to some degree and elements of the LK Massage Programme have changed during this time.

Any professional who wishes to use the intervention in their practice must attend  the courses and any use without agreement constitutes infringement of copyright. - More info bottom of page
